Floor warden

It is suggested that the reader selects one of the emergency groups above, e.g. floor warden, and writes out the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for a short coinse for floor wardens. Use active verbs, e.g. identify, discuss, transmit.

In order to ensure that an effective sweep is made of a building at the time of an emergency evacuation it is necessary for the fire safety manager or fire incident controller to allocate specific areas of the building to specific fire wardens/marshals. In the case of multistorey offices this is often achieved by nominating two to three fire wardens per floor, whereas, in the case of an open plan factory, fire wardens may be allocated to production areas. 

In the U.S., many states require fire exit drills to be conducted periodically. They should follow a schedule to occur at known intervals and one or two people from each floor of a building should be designated to act as fire wardens. It is the responsibility of the fire wardens to be sure that all the people on their floor have exited. Total evacuation of the building during a drill or an actual fire is mandatory.
