The objective of printing is to create a visibly identifiable image, consistently, for a large number of impressions. In principle, this can be done with a printing plate, and the various printing methods are named after the nature of the printing plate. Many techniques have been developed for this purpose. 

The screen printing process uses a rubber squeegee to force ink through a tightly stretched, finely woven mesh onto various substrates. The basic concept has been refined to the point where large semi- and fully automatic lines are relatively common. Typical products are display printing, industrial and container printing, and printed circuit production.  

Traditionally, evaporation-drying solvent-based inks have been used. These have been replaced during the last decade by UV curable inks, which exhibit the following advantages  

Almost instantaneous cure, reduces seeping into substrate.
