When a 1,4-quinonediazide is used as the electrophilic component, a quinoneazine is formed according to Scheme 12-50 (Huisgen and Fleischmann, 1959).

Stabilization of intermediates by strong adsorption will frequently be a necessary precondition for synthesis. Thus, in the case of the Kolbe reaction, further oxidation of the radicals is prevented the formation of metal-carbon bonds in the reduction of alkyl halides (Fleischmann et al., 1971a Galli and Olivani, 1970) or oxidation of Grignard reagents (Fleischmann et al., 1972c) is shown by the isolation of organometallic... 

The oxidation of hydrazine follows the change in surface completely since it oxidizes rapidly on bare nickel and again on the nickel(III) oxide surface but in the intermediate potential region, where the surface is covered with nickel(II) hydroxide, the anodic oxidation cannot occur (Fleischmann etal., 1972d).
