Flat-on position

Figure 1.8 Semiorystalline polymer (PE) with arrangement of crystalline lamellae (clearly visible as bright bands in edge-on position) and interlamellar amorphous regions and lamellae interfaces (dark), and gray bands represent lamellae in a tilted or flat-on position (chemically stained UDS, TEM)... The flat belt is a friction drive transmitting load through the friction between the belt and the pulley while the V-belt is a positive drive which is flat on one side and has a projection like a geartooth on the other. These... [Pg.203]

Place emulsion-coated slide in a horizontal position and wipe the back of the dipped slide with a paper towel or a damp sponge and place the slide flat on a drying rack protected from safelight exposure for 1 h at 45-50% relative humidity (RH). The emulsion will gel in approximately 1 h but can be speeded up by placing the slide on a cold metal plate for 15-... [Pg.58]

Figure 7 shows SNIFTIRS spectra for isoquinoline molecules adsorbed on mercury. The reference spectrum in each case was obtained at 0.0V vs. a SCE reference electrode at this potential the molecules are believed to be oriented flat on the metal surface. The vibrational frequencies of the band structure (positive values of absorbance) are easily assigned since they are essentially the same as those reported by Wait et al. (22) for pure isoquinoline. The differences in the spectra are that the bands for the adsorbed species exhibit blue shifting of 3-4 cm" relative to those of the neat material, and the relative intensities of the bands for the adsorbed species are markedly changed. [Pg.344]

Fig. 1. The core particle, the DNA superhelix and H2B and H3 N-terminal tails, (a) Space-filling representation of the 2.8 A crystal structure of the 146 bp human a-satellite nucleosome core particle [22]. The dyad is in the plane of the paper and the superhelix axis slightly off that plane. Positive and negative numbers mark the superhelix locations (SHL) in the upper and lower gyres, respectively, and the dotted curve follows the path of the double helix axis, (b) Ribbon representation of the DNA superhelix slit along a line parallel to its axis, opened out and laid flat on the paper surface. SHL are also indicated, together with H2B and H3 tails passage points between the gyres. (From Fig. 5 in Ref [29].)... Fig. 1. The edges of the trough are machined flat and are maintained in a horizontal position. They are either made of a hydrophobic material such as Teflon or are covered with a hydrophobic material such as wax. Only the former procedure is normally now used. The trough is filled to a point where it almost overflows. If a Teflon barrier is arranged so that it lies flat on, and makes contact with, both sides of the trough it will, under these circumstances, act as a barrier to the film which is spread between it and one end of the trough. [Pg.41]
