Fish and Mussel Cleaned Extracts

For this study, fish and mussel extracts were prepared using a water/methanol (1 1 v/v) extraction followed by clean-up with diethyl ether. Arsenobetaine, arsenocholine, DMA, MM A and As(V) in the extracts were stable at — 20°C and +4 °C for at least 2 months. [Pg.135]

The saturation of the column (ion exchange or ion pairing) due to the presence of high amounts of salts (especially in mussels) was avoided by dilution or use of a Cis pre-column. Chloride cartridges were tested but As(V) and DMA were partially and totally removed, respectively. Some discrepancies were attributed to calibration errors. The main observation reported for the mussel extract concerned the presence of two unknown compounds. It was suggested that the peaks might be due to arsenosugars, as already reported in the literature. [Pg.135]
