Filgrastim adverse effects

Few studies have directly compared the safety of the various available colony-stimulating factors. The frequency and severity of adverse effects associated with the prophylactic use of filgrastim (a bacterial cell-derived G-CSF) or sargramostim (a yeast cell-derived GM-CSF) have been assessed in a retrospective review of the medical records of 490 cancer patients from 10 centers (9). 

There were no major differences in the adverse effect profiles in 42 patients with breast cancer randomized to filgrastim (G-CSF) or molgramostim (GM-CSF) (SEDA-22, 407). There were no significant differences in the adverse effects profiles and severity of adverse effects in 181 patients with cancers randomized to receive filgrastim (G-CSF) or sargramostim (GM-CSF) for chemotherapy-induced myelosuppression (6).
