Filament winding Helical pattern

Reverse helical winding n. In filament winding, a pattern in which a continuous helix is laid down, reversing direction at each of the polar ends. It differs from biaxial compact, or sequential winding in that the fibers cross each other at definite equators, the number depending on the hehcal lead, with the minimum number of crossovers being three. [Pg.837]

Filament winding was originally used to fabricate tanks and pipes early equipment consisted of little more than converted lathes, with a reciprocating feed eye winding a helical pattern onto a rotating mandrel. This created the impression that helical winding of pipes and tanks is necessary, when in fact, other winding patterns are equally effective. [Pg.1686]

Additional patterns have been simulated, including near 0 to about 90 helices. Test cylinders have also been wound with roving. The graphical presentation is effective for conformation before winding and demonstrates the successful development of a numericeiUy controlled, filament winder. [Pg.547]
