We almost always want to take blackbody data on a detector at a given irradiance. Someone needs to determine a combination of spectral filters, field-of-view shields, blackbody temperature, apertures, and distances that will provide the required background and adequate signal-to-noise ratio and allow prediction of the performance at the wavelengths of interest.
