Ferrofluids Magnetic Magic

Future uses of magnetic fluids may include biomedical applications. For example, it has been proposed that drugs be attached to magnetic particles so that magnets can be used to concentrate the medicine in the part of the body affected by the disease being treated.  

Tiny particles of iron oxide suspended in a fluid make a highly effective seal. In this mechanism, which is used in chip manufacturing, the magnetic seal prevents contaminants from entering the area where semiconductors are being made.
