Ferrocenyl methyl

The hydantoins (116 and 117) have been prepared from DL-j8-ferrocenyl-a-alanine and N - ferrocenyl methyl-AT-(a-carbethoxy-benzyl)urea, respectively.68 The Friedel Crafts reaction of ferrocene and 2-pyrroylchloride gave the ketone (118).112,113 The polarographic half-wave potentials of 118 and other related ferrocenes were measured113 and it was concluded that the ferrocene radical was more electropositive than the phenyl radical. 

Acetylcholineesterase and choline oxidase Au foil was treated with cystamine to produce a base layer of ami-nothiolate units, was derivatized by reaction of the amino group and disodium-4,4 -diisothiocyanato-trans-stilbene-2,2 -disulfonate. Electrical communication between the enzyme and the electrode is achieved either by the use of ferrocenecar-boxylic acid as mediator in the assay buffer or by immobilization of [(ferrocenyl methyl)amino] hexa-noic acid on the enzyme layer. Other ferrocene pendant-containing polymers include polymers such as poly(ferrocenyl methyl acrylate) and poly(ferrocenyl methyl methacrylate) [23]. These polymers have been prepared from the free-radical polymerization of the corresponding ferrocenyl acrylate monomers (Fig. 8.3) [23]. 

Palladium(ii) complexes of imidazoline-2-ylidenes with pendant 1- and 1,3-di-methylferrocenyl substituents, 78 and 79, were prepared by the reaction of the relevant benzimidazolium salt with Pd(OAc)2 and a crystal structure of 79 obtained. " In common with other related carbene complexes, the plane of the benzimidazole rings are twisted with respect to the palladium coordination plane the dihedral angle is 85.17(23)°. The closely related l-ferrocenyl-3-methyl-benzimidazolin-2-ylidene complex (in which there is no methyl linker between the N and the ferrocenyl group) has also been prepared by a similar route. " l-Ferrocenylmethyl-3-benzylimidazolidinium and 1-ferrocenyl-methyl-3-(2,4,6-trimethylbenzyl)imidazolidinium iodide salts were prepared and complexed to Pd by an in situ deprotonation route. " Cyclic voltammetry studies on the salts and the Pd complex show a number of redox processes, indicating that the ferrocenyl substituents are electronically isolated from the remaining molecular framework.

The resonance between 55 and 56 (R = H, alkyl, aryl, ferrocenyl) in ferrocenyl-methyl cations including the diferrocenylmethyl cation has been used by Cais to explain the similar bending of the exocyclic C,C bonds toward the iron atom (Scheme 10.20) [65].Thefieldhas recently been reviewedbyGleiteref a/. [62],who included related isoelectronic boryl substituted systems. Wagner et al. [66] have prepared compounds of this type, and the authors proposed attractive interactions between the iron and boron atoms, because the C-B bonds are bent toward the iron atom. The analogy does not only apply to ferrocenes but also to isoelectronic (cyclobutadiene)(cyclopentadienyl)cobalt complexes and other related compounds [62].
