Feminist perspective

There were several other speakers at this meeting. Immediately following His Holiness s talk, a woman commented from a feminist perspective on peace. She spoke of the way women have been mistreated in our own and other cultures, the ways in which war is a masculine activity that hurts women, and the need for women to use their power to stop war. Her analysis of the way sexism supports war opened new understandings to me. Intellectually, I agreed with all the points she made. They were clear, incisive, and very practical.

The historical context gave birth to the theorizing of various contemporary feminist perspectives. Girls are then implicitly forced to behave like girls and to act feminine. The major distinction with the essentialist feminist perspective is the assertion that the differences between women and men spring from their upbringing and not from then-nature (e.g., different hormones) (Rosser, 1997).

From a feminist perspective, it can be ai ed that hypnosis cements and even perpetuates patriarchal structures, since most of the well-known hypnotherapists were men and the hypnotherapist exerts a kind of dominance over the patient or client, unlike as in a guided imj ery setting in which the relationship is less hierarchical and less suggestive. Therefore, a unique feminist approach to hypnosis is also the subject of research. 

From the feminist perspective, Rosser warns not to simply add on practical applications or a bit of history ofscience to a course, without rethinking the structure and perspective from which the course is taught . Feminist research has much in common with action research. Feminist perspectives and activism have distinctively contributed to participatory action research in terms of epistemological critiques, the development of alternative methods and the traditional commitment to activism within and outside the university (Brydon-Miller et al. 2004). Feminist theories on gender and technology, especially in computer science and informatics, are therefore another important background of the Bremen Summer University concept. We follow the approach that technology design and innovation evolve from gendered practices and policies.
