Advantage Felgett

Noise can be controlled in diode array spectrometry by spectral averaging. The Felgett advantage (noise reduction equals the square root of acquired data points) leads to a significant improvement of the signal-to-noise ratio. Large bandwidth acquisition not only reduces noise but also lowers sensitivity. 

What must be emphasized immediately however is the fact that the F.T. spectrometer still possesses this very large advantage of sensitivity provided by the inherent optical and observational efficiency these are called the Jacquinot and Felgett advantages respectively. 

There are a number of advantages to FT IR methods. Since a monochromator is not used, the entire radiation range is passed through the sample simultaneously and much time is saved (Felgett s advantage) ...
