Feed clarification cell

On 20 April 2005, British Nuclear Group Sellalield Limited (BNGSL) discovered a leak from a pipe that supplied highly radioactive liquor to an accountancy tank in a part of the Thermal Oxide Reprocessing Plant (THORP) at Sellafield, known as the feed clarification cell . The incident was categorized by BNGSL as 3 on the International Nuclear Event Scale. [Pg.71]

The system uses three main components an equalization tank (EQ), treatment cells, and a clarification cell. The EQ dilutes the feed stream and begins the biodegradation process. The treatment cells contain media to which the bacteria are attached and the water is passed through each of these cells twice. The cells are aerated to provide the necessary oxygen for the bacteria, and this is where the bulk of the degradation occurs. The clarification cell is where bacteria that have become dislodged from the media are settled out and recycled to the EQ. [Pg.422]

For purposes of further clarification and in the juxtaposition illustrated in the figures, the reject from the membrane cell above becomes part of the feed to the reject side of the cell below, along with the stream V... [Pg.111]

Further progress has been achieved with media that are capable of direct capture of biomolecules from crude feed streams without preliminary clarification and concentration of cell culture supernatants using fluidized bed technology or oversized beads (CellThru BigBeads). [Pg.619]
