Fate of Sulfur Fed as Sodium Sulfide to Rats

When labeled sulfur was administered as sodium sulfide (containing 1.66 mg. sxdfur) by stomach tube to rats, a very large part of the sulfur was absorbed and excreted in the urine. The major portion of the radioactive sulfur in the urine was in the form of sulfate sulfur, both inorganic and ethereal. This result indicates that the rat can oxidize sulfide sulfur to sulfate sulfur and thereby change a relatively toxic form of sulfur to an [Pg.193]
