Fasciculic acids

The fasciculols, e.g. fasciculic acid A (5.165), which were obtained from the bitter-tasting fruiting bodies of Hypholoma (Neamatolomd) fasciculare (sulphur tuft), are plant growth inhibitors. Some are esterified with a hydroxymethyl-glutarylglycyl unit. The compounds, particularly fasciculol C, are calmodulin inhibitors. [Pg.115]

CrustuNnol diester see fasciculic acid. Cryptaustolne see dibenzopyrrocoline alkaloids. Cryptolepine (5-methyl-5f/-quindoline). [Pg.158]

FIGURE 7-6 Neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM) carries different levels of polysialic acid. (A) NCAM is depicted on a growing axon, without polysialic acid. Under these conditions, NCAM and LI molecules interact homophilically and axons fasciculate. (B) NCAM carries polysialic acid (PSA), and NCAM and LI molecules are far apart and cannot, therefore, interact. Growing axons do not fasciculate under these circumstances. [Pg.117]

The cause of the pain is unknown, although there are many hypotheses such as damage to muscle (43,44) resulting from asynchronous contractions of adjacent muscle fibers (45), irreversible damage to muscle spindles (46), potassium flux (47), lactic acid (48), serotonin (49), calcium influx-associated damage to muscle spindles (50), and prostaglandins (51,52). The pain appears not to be related to the extent or intensity of the observed fasciculations. [Pg.3257]
