Experimental Studies on Magnesian Chlorites

Synthetic magnesian chlorites have been studied by numerous workers. [Pg.104]

In the magnesian system, 7 8 chlorite can coexist with talc, magnesian trioctahedral and dioctahedral montmorillonite, boehmite and brucite. A 14 8 chlorite can coexist with magnesian montmorillonite, talc, quartz, kaolinite, boehmite and brucite. It is important to note that 7 8 aluminous chlorites do not stably coexist with quartz or a free silica phase. [Pg.105]

Although experiments indicate an instability of 7 8 magnesian chlorite and quartz, it is common to find chamosite pellets with a quartz grain at their center (Schellmann, 1969). Does this mean stability due to a high iron content, poor experimental data, or a metastable association  [Pg.105]

If we consider that quartz is effectively not the mineral which controls [Pg.105]
