Experiment trigger

Why is DMT a less valid path to God or transcendence than a Gregorian chant, Baha i prayer, or Melungeon meditation How can we say that a mystical experience triggered by prayer is superior in revealing truth and beauty than the experience triggered by drugs or abnormal electrical firing in the brain s temporal lobes And what about people who both pray and meditate and explore with DMT ... [Pg.100]

Because of its hallucinatory qualities, ketamine is sometimes compared with other psychedelics, including LSD, mescaline, and psilocybin. There is no evidence to support that these types of drugs cause long-term psychotic or schizophrenic behaviors, but individuals with an underlying mental condition may find the drug experience triggers an outbreak of the disease. [Pg.274]

The macro time clock can be started by an external experiment trigger or by a start-measurement command from the operating software. In some TCSPC modules the clock signal source of the macro time clock can be selected. The macro time clock can be an internal quartz oscillator, an external clock source, or the reference signal from the laser. Triggering and external clock synchronisation are absolute requirements for multimodule operation in the time-tag mode, see Sect. 5.11.3, page 189. [Pg.44]

The fluorescence of the chlorophyll in a leaf is excited by a picosecond diode laser. The fluorescence is separated from the scattered excitation light by a bandpass filter and detected by a PMT. The photon pulses from the PMT are used as start pulses of the TCSPC module, the reference pulses from the laser as stop pulses. When the laser is switched on, a recording sequence in the TCSPC module is triggered. This is done by connecting a diode from the operating voltage input of the laser to the TTL-compatible experiment trigger input of the TCSPC module. [Pg.92]

Intrinsic asthma, also called idiopathic asthma, usually develops in adulthood. In intrinsic asthma allergic factors are not demonstrable. Episodes of intrinsic asthma may be triggered by a variety of stimuli, eg, emotional state, exposure to cold air, or inert dusts. Both intrinsic and extrinsic asthmatics can be prone to exercise-induced attacks. Individuals who experience a combination of extrinsic and intrinsic asthmatic reactions have mixed asthma. Status asthmaticus refers to an especially acute life-threatening asthma attack which is resistant to normal treatments and which may require hospitalization in order to stabilize the patient. [Pg.436]

In nonindustrial settings, MCS substances are the cause of indoor air pollution and are the contaminants in air and water. Many of the chemicals which trigger MCS symptoms are known to be irritants or toxic to the nervous system. As an example, volatile organic compounds readily evaporate into the air at room temperature. Permitted airborne levels of such contaminants can still make ordinary people sick. When the human body is assaulted with levels of toxic chemicals that it cannot safely process, it is likely that at some point an individual will become ill. For some, the outcome could be cancer or reproductive damage. Others may become hypersensitive to these chemicals or develop other chronic disorders, while some people may not experience any noticeable health effects. Even where high levels of exposure occur, generally only a small percentage of people become chemically sensitive. [Pg.45]

Use model programs to trigger ideas and focus or expedite the systems design effort. Look for opportunities to learn from the experience of others, but in most cases try to emphasize adapt" rather than adopt ... [Pg.136]

A sequence stretch 300 base pairs upstream of the transcriptional start site suffices for most of the transcriptional regulation of the IL-6 gene (Fig. 1). Within this sequence stretch several transcription factors find their specific recognition sites. In 5 to 3 direction, AP-1, CREB, C/EBP 3/NF-IL6, SP-1 and NF-kB can bind to the promoter followed by TATA and its TATA binding protein TBP. Most enhancer factors become active in response to one or several different stimuli and the active factors can trigger transcription individually or in concert. For example, AP-1 is active upon cellular stress, or upon stimuli that tell cells to proliferate CREB becomes also active if cells experience growth signals, but also upon elevation of intracellular levels of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), which occurs upon stimulation if so called hormone-activated G protein-coupled receptors. [Pg.1226]
