Experiment 6 The Gravimetric Determination of Sulfate in a Commercial Unknown

Experiment 6 The Gravimetric Determination of Sulfate in a Commercial Unknown [Pg.57]

Obtain a sample of unknown sulfate from your instructor. Record the unknown number in your notebook. Dry the sample for 1 h using a weighing bottle and drying oven. [Pg.58]

After the /2 h has expired, turn off the burners and allow the crucibles and lids to cool in place for 5 min. Then, using crucible tongs, transfer them to a desiccator to continue cooling for 15 min more. [Pg.58]

Store the two beakers and the desiccator until session 2, or proceed to session 2 at the discretion of your instructor. [Pg.58]

After allowing the last rinsings to completely drain from the filter, carefully remove the filter paper from the funnel, fold, and place into the crucible with the same label. Place the lids on the crucibles. At this point, you will need a minimum of 60 min to complete the experiment. If time does not allow the completion of the experiment, store your crucibles outside of your desiccator until the next lab period. [Pg.59]
