Experiment 47 HPLC Determination of Caffeine and Sodium Benzoate in Soda Pop

Experiment 47 HPLC Determination of Caffeine and Sodium Benzoate in Soda Pop [Pg.388]

Soda pop samples must be filtered and degassed. Prepare samples by vacuum filtering through paper 0.45-/rm filters, and then fill small labeled vials. [Pg.388]

Prepare 50 mL of a stock standard solution that is 2.0 mg/mL in caffeine and 5.0 mg/mL in sodium benzoate. Use an analytical balance to weigh the chemicals and a clean 50-mL volumetric flask for the solution. Use distilled water as the diluent. Shake well. [Pg.388]

Prepare calibration standards that are 0.05, 0.10, 0.15, and 0.20 mg/mL in caffeine from the stock standard. Use 25-mL volumetric flasks and measuring pipets or pipetters suggested by your instructor. Calculate the concentration of sodium benzoate in each of these solutions. [Pg.388]

Filter each calibration standard, using the syringe filtering equipment, into small labeled vials. [Pg.388]
