Ex-vessel storage tank

The sodium inventory (total quantity of the primary, secondary and ex-vessel storage tank systems) is about 1,7001. 

The shield plug, fuel handling machine, ex-vessel storage tank and other major components were assembled in advance at the factory, and assembly tests were conducted to confirm the performance of system prior to assembly on site.

The spent fuel assemblies are stored in an ex-vessel storage system with a single large tank or modular small tanks. 

Ex-vessel sodium storage for removal of decay heat of SA has been avoided and the SA are stored in in-vessel storage locations within the main vessel. The spent fuel subassemblies are stored inside the main vessel for a period of 8 months till the decay power reduces to less than 5 kW and are then shifted to spent fuel storage bay (SFSB). SFSB is a water filled double concrete walled tank. 

The neutralisation takes place in a stirred tank reactor with cooling coils to which the sulphonic acid (ex cascade sulphonation reactor train or from storage) and the diluted caustic are continuously added. The stirred-tank neutraliser is the final reactor in the total train of seven (4 sulphonation reactors, 1 ageing vessel, 1 hydrolyser reactor and last, but not least, the neutralisation reactor).
