Ex situ coating

Ex situ coatings of chitosan can be applied to lONP cores produced through either coprecipitation or thermal decomposition methods. lONPs synthesized through thermal decomposition are hydrophobic in character and can only be dispersed in nonpolar organic solvents [54]. Conversely, lONPs prepared through coprecipitation are hydrophilic and can readily be disperse in polar aqueous solvents [55].
