Another solid-state membrane of extremely high selectivity and appKcability is the single crystal LaFs membrane electrode [26]. The crystal is doped with europium to lower its electrical resistance... [Pg.5585]

A single crystal of LaF acts as the sensing membrane in a fluoride electrode. However, LaFg has a very high electrical resistance. To cancel this detrimental property. LaF crystal is usually doped with europium (II) which lowers the crystal resistance and facilitates ionic charge transport. The LaFg crystal, sealed into the end of a rigid plastic tube, Is in contact with the internal solution and the external solution. The internal solution Is 0.1 M with respect to NaF... [Pg.68]

King (1969) measured electrical resistance as a function of pressure on alloys in the Yb-rich portion of the Eu-Yb system. Alloys in this 5 tem were difficult to prepare because of the volatility of europium and so it was necessary to confirm the compositions on the basis of lattice spacing data, none of which were presented in King s paper. Additions of europium lowered the fcc()8)5 bcc(y) transformation that occurred at 3.94 GPa for pure ytterbium to 3.1 GPa for the 70at% Yb alloy. [Pg.98]

Chevalier et al. (1977) studied also the magnetic and electrical transport properties of NdO cNi-x phases which differ from those of the europium-containing phases since they are ferromagnetic and metallic. Conductivity increases with increasing oxide content and resistivities vary from 10 Qcm for x=0.09 to 10 " Qcm for x=0.22. [Pg.58]
