During the course of screening plants for insect antifeedants, the extract of the bulbs of Lycoris radiata Herb, was found to exhibit antifeeding activity when tested against the larvae of the yellow butterfly Eurema hecabe mandarina (61).

Pinitol (63) is a feeding stimulant for the larvae of the butterfly, Eurema hecabe mandarina and also inhibits Heli-coverpis zea larval growth in soybeans (Ley et al., 1987). 

Widely distributed in plants. Produced on a large scale from the heartwood of Pinus lambertiana. Chiral synthetic precursor. Shows hypoglycaemic and antidiabetic activity. Feeding stimulant for larvae of butterfly Eurema hecabe mandarina, inhibitor of Heliothis zea larval growth. Mp 185-186°. Mg +67 (c, 2.5 in H2O). 

In hydrolysates of the wing-scales of butterfly (Eurema hecabe) in 1 N hydrochloric acid. This compound was also present in the hydrolyzate of wing-scales of Catopsilia crocale, Appias indra and Motpho rhetenor [5098]. 

Osmundalin (826) has been isolated from Osmunda japonica and O. regalis var. spectabilis 459 and its diastereoisomer angiopteroside (827) from the rhizome of Angiopteris lygodiifolia 460, 461). Recently, three compounds 823, 824 and 825, which had originally been prepared by synthesis, were isolated from Osmunda japonica. These compounds are active as antifeedants on the larvae of yellow butterfly, Eurema he-cabe mandarina (457, 458).
