While these studies were all preliminary and use rather small, ethnically homogenous (largely Japanese) samples, the consistency of the trend is encouraging and indicates a need for much larger studies.

Other political factors are important as well. Substantial work has been devoted to the role of ethnic homogeneity and its effects on support for safety nets.
