Equilibrium studies

The equilibrium equation (1) can be demonstrated by distribution isotherms of some salts between the exchanger and the aqueous phases. These isotherms depend strongly on the composition and concentration of the exchanger phase, the polarity of the diluent, and the nature and concentration of the salts in the aqueous phase. [Pg.3]

Distribution isotherms for calcium and magnesium chloride over a concentration range of more than an order of magnitude are shown in Fig. 2. A log-log plot of a salt s my- in the aqueous phase versus its log molality [Pg.3]

The distribution of the ions between the two phases is dictated by their chemical potentials, so that at equilibrium [Pg.4]

The experimental data in Fig. 3 show a linear relationship for log m versus logCmy ), which confirms the validity of Eq. (5). In other words, if the parameter C is constant, the activity coefficient of the salt in the exchanger phase is also constant and independent of the concentration of the salt in that phase. [Pg.5]

For a divalent cation the constant C in Eq. (5), whose temperature dependence, if any, has to be established, equals [Pg.5]

This reaction is a clear example of the importance of tautomeric equilibrium studies in this series since, to the extent that the starting thiazolone does not epimerize in the medium, asymmetric induction may be expected in this reaction (453, 455). [Pg.434]

Cohen and Ramost describe some phase equilibrium studies of block copolymers of butadiene (B) and isoprene (I). One such polymer is described as having a 2 1 molar ratio of B to I with the following microstructure ... [Pg.67]

This chapter deals mainly with information that can be obtained from equilibrium, or at least steady-state, recordings of ion-channel receptor activity. However, a great deal of information has also been obtained from kinetic studies of ion channels where the aim has been to determine values for the rate constants in a receptor mechanism. In general, only equilibrium constants can be determined from equilibrium studies. [Pg.184]
