Kinetic study of the reaction of cyclopentyl-MgBr + 4-methylmercaptoacetophenone by using stopped-flow UV and IR spectroscopies also showed that the rate constant was in the range of 2-6 s in diethyl ether at 25 °C, and the rate was first order in RMgX at low concentration (ca 0.1 M) and 0th order at high concentrations (0.3-0.8 M). The results were interpreted by the mechanism which involved pre-equilibrium of complex formation and conversion of the complex to the product.

The analysis is not applied to cases in which complex formation lies on the side of the complex. 

Modem simulators can calculate the equilibrium of complex reactions by the minimisation of Gibbs free energy of the reaction mixture. Here we present results obtained with the module RGlbbs of Aspen Plus. An appropriate thermodynamic model is a cubic equation of state, as Peng-Robinson. 

However, as demonstrated by Delamar [155], the method of Simmons and Beard has some drawbacks. The most important is that it neglects the equilibrium of complexation of X+ by MO ...
