Equihbrium Copolymerization

Delgado et al. pubhshed a series of papers [56,58,91,153-157] on the miniemulsion copolymerization of vinyl acetate and butyl acrylate. A very comprehensive mathematical model of the polymerization system was developed. Equihbrium swelling was accoimted for, since the model did not presume complete droplet nucleation, and so monomer transport from unnucleated mini-... [Pg.198]

Copolymerization models based upon a bootstrap effect were first proposed by Harwood (23) and Semchikov (24). Harwood suggested that the terminal model could be extended by the incorporation of an additional equilibrium constant relating the effective and loulk monomer feed ratios. Different versions of this so-called bootstrap model may be derived depending upon the baseline model assumed (such as the terminal model or the implicit or explicit penultimate models) and the form of equihbrium expression used to represent the bootstrap effect. In the simplest case, it is assumed that the magnitude of the bootstrap effect is independent of the comonomer feed ratios. Hence in a bulk copolymerization, the monomer partitioning may be represented by the following equilibrium expression ... [Pg.1885]
