The so-called climbers boot theory was advanced, implicating the setae as structures capable of microinterlocking with substrate asperities. The skin is also one of the most immunogenic tissues due to its high number of epidermal and dermal DCs. These properties make the skin capable to trigger inflammation and to induce potent T-ceU responses not only in site but also in general immunity. Therefore, skin is an ideal tissue for the development of therapies in physical and chemical bums, skin diseases, and vaccine.
