Epichlorohydrin glycidyl ether synthesis

The preferred catalysts are salts of inorganic and organic acids as well as tertiary amines. Phthalic anhydride, succinic anhydride and maleic anhydride are typical acid anhydrides, while ethylene oxide, propylene oxide, epichlorohydrin and phenyl glycidyl ether are typical epoxides. The synthesis of a ladder polymer was carried out by using bisanhydrides264. ... [Pg.22]

Free-flowing crystals (m.p. 43.5°C) of 2,2-bis(2,3-epoxypropoxyphenyl)-propane are obtained by carrying out the reaction of bisphenol A with epichlorohydrin, which contains at least about 90% by weight of the diglycidyl ether, to which is added 8-15% by weight of /7-butyl glycidyl ether as a solvent [45]. The synthesis of monoglycidyl aryl ethers has also been reported [46]. [Pg.92]

The discovery of coordinate polymerization of oxirane led to an enormous expansion in the range of polyether structures that could be synthesized. Some of the remarkable synthesis chemistry is outlined in Section III. Coordinate copolymerization further increased the range of polymer structures that could be synthesized in highly controlled ways. Two examples have already been described copolymers of epichlorohydrin and ethylene oxide (71) and of propylene oxide and allyl glycidyl ether (94, 137). The activation energy for copolymerization of epichlorohydrin and maleic anhydride was found to be 14.5 kcal/mol, and the polymerization rate is dependent on temperature and proportional to catalyst concentration (138-140). [Pg.89]
