Besides drugs, humans also have different susceptibihty to environmental agents (see Fig. 1.1). The Environmental Genome Project (EGP) aims to improve understanding of human genetic susceptibility to environmental exposures (see Table 1.2).

With completion of the human genome project, the functional and positional cloning of Mendelian traits and diseases can become fairly routine (2).
