Environmental Characterization of Materials for Product Design

In addition, enviromnental evaluation and characterization of materials raise specific issues - some of them peculiar to lifecycle assessment (LCA) others to the handling of multicriterion information as part of a decision-making process. 

Using a concrete example (characterization of a selection of materials for the design of a bottle), this chapter illustrates the issue of enviromnental characterization of materials, and offers a discussion of the limitations of LCA and the functional approach required.
