Enthalpy as a function of state

In process simulation it is necessary to calculate enthalpy as a function of state variables. This is done using the following formulas, derived from the above relations by considering S and H as functions of T and p. 

Thus, enthalpy as a function of state is similar to internal energy, but it contains a correction for the volume work. However, the change of volume with temperature for solids and liquids is small therefore the difference between enthalpy and internal energy is also small.
