Energy inputs starch polymers

The above results clearly show that compatibility and optimum interactions between polymer matrix, oiganic modifiers (if any) and the silicate layer surface are cra-cial to the formation of intercalated or exfoliated nanocomposite stracture. Starch and PVOH are more compatible with Na-MMT and LRD than C30B and C lOA because of their hydrophihcity. On the other hand, with increase of clay content, the clay layers are harder to be dispersed due to the weak intermolecular forces. In such case, more mechanical energy input instead of molecular interactions may be needed to peel off the silicate plates to produce exfoliated nanocomposite structure. [Pg.298]
