Energy balance appetite factors

Obesity is a growing health problem in developed nations of the world. Approximately 33% of the population in the United States and 15% to 20% in Europe suffer from obesity.103 Human obesity has been linked to genes and other factors relevant to energy balance.104 The control of appetite and the mechanism of obesity are under investigation. The Ob-gene and its protein product, leptin, have been identified and appear to regulate food intake.
