Energetic groups

In the literature, there are reports of carborane units bearing energetic groups, including nitro- and nitro-phenyl. The treatment of o-carborane with 100% nitric acid at room temperature is reported36 to yield a B-hydroxyl and a B-nitrato-o-carborane (see scheme 13).

Table 7.1 gives calculated values for the total amount of energy, vp Eq), lost in nuclear collisions by energetic Group IV ions incident on silicon and germanium. 

Cubane [29,30] is an appealing substance on which to base a synthesis of energetic compounds. It contains an inherent strain energy and, in addi tkm, offers a number of reports in which energetic groups may be attached. We review here some investigations that have revealed characteristic structural features of the cubanes.
