It is therefore extremely difficult to carry out relevant research without the involvement of those who understand organic principles. In the UK, there are a few research centres that are solely devoted to organic research (see Table 12.1) the best known (and longest established) are the Elm Farm Research Centre (EFRC) and the Henry Doubleday Research Association (HDRA).

Elm Farm Research Centre was founded in 1980 as an educational charity. Our aim is the development and promotion of organic agriculture as the most environmentally sound vray of producing healthy food.
