Elimination alignment

Where a significant lift is required such as offshore, several options are available such as a shaft driven, hydraulic drive or electrical submersible pump. Shaft driven vertical turbine pumps historically have been used extensively offshore, but recent reliability improvement with electrical submersible pumps and hydraulic drive units have been eagerly accepted as they eliminate alignment problems, topsides weight and in some instances are less complex than the right angle engine driven vertical turbine units. Hydraulic calculations for offshore pump installations must remember to account for tide and wave fluctuations. [Pg.207]

In Europe, the formation of the European Economic Community has created a requirement to bring food additive approvals of the member nations into alignment, so as to eliminate differences in laws that hinder the movement of foodstuffs among these nations. Historically the member countries have differed widely in approaches to food additive approval and their tendency to approve new additives. At the time of this writing, a framework directive for food additives and several specific directives for various categories of additives are nearing completion (3). [Pg.436]

Optical-alignment systems offer several advantages. Because laser fixtures eliminate the mechanical linkage and runout gages, there is no fixture sag. This greatly increases the accuracy and repeatability of the data obtained using this method. [Pg.923]

Most of the optical-alignment systems incorporate a micro-processing unit, which eliminates recording errors commonly found with reverse-dial indicator and rim-and-face methods. Optical systems automatically maintain the proper orientation and provide accurate offset and angularity data, virtually eliminating operator error. [Pg.924]

The selectivity in the Heck reaction of allylic alcohol 111 is interesting, and the factors that lead to the observed preference for (3-hydride elimination toward nitrogen in this system are unclear, although a combination of steric effects and stereoelectronic factors (i.e., alignment of C-H and C-Pd bonds, nN a c H interactions) is likely involved. Examination of related examples from the literature (Scheme 4.20) reveals no clear trend. Rawal and Michoud examined substrate 115, which lacks the influence of both the amine and hydroxyl substituents and also seems to favor (3-hydride elimination within the six-membered ring over formation of the exocyclic olefin under standard Heck conditions [18a]. However, under... [Pg.88]
