Element Materials for LT Furnaces

An LT furnace is heated to about 1000°C and generally, the choice of element material is between a wire resistance heating element or SiC (Table 10.2). Alloys like Kanthal A

Thereafter, the reaction decreases with increasing temperature and SiC can be used at 1900°C. 

Temperatures can be measured with Chromel vs Alumel thermocouples in Inconel sheaths, which can be earthed to avoid stray pick-up from the heating elements.
