A polymer solution with a concentration of 15 wt% was prepared by dissolving polyacrylonitrile (PAN) in DME PAN solution in DMF was loaded into a 1 ml syringe. A modified electrospinning system consisting of two syringe pumps was used to produce bulky nanofibre mats. The experimental setup of this electrospiiming procedure is shown in Figure 2.4. [Pg.39]

Electrospinning is an effective technique to produce continuous polymer fibres with diameters on submicrometre or nanometre scales (Reneker and Chun, 1996, Jayaraman et al 2004, Li and Xia, 2004b). It involves a process in which a polymer solution or melt is stretched into fine filaments under the action of a high electrical voltage. The basic electrospinning system, illustrated... [Pg.91]

Although both polymer solutions and polymer melts have been electrospun into fibres, most studies have been focused on the polymer solution. Literature is scarce on the polymer melt-based electrospiiming process. Therefore, in this chapter, the discussion is limited to the solution-based electrospinning system. [Pg.92]

Wu et al. [93] employed a stationary cylinder spinneret that improved the mass production of nanofibres by 260 times with respect to conventional electrospinning system. Later, fibre uniformity was improved using a strip-distributed solution delivery method. This type of electrospinning is named tipless electrospinning [94]. Figure 4.8 demonstrates different stationary spinnerets. [Pg.97]
