Videoscope A special endoscope that contains a miniature electronic imaging device (e.g., charge-coupled device) instead of an ordered imaging fiber bundle. 

The output image on the intensifier tube is then focused onto an electronic image device such as a TV tube, or more recently a CCD (charge coupled device), from where it can be read out. The image tube and the imaging device are cooled to low temperatures in order to reduce dark current and noise levels.

The protection of records by archiving must include taking into consideration the rate of degradation of the electronic images, and the availability of the devices and software needed to access the records.
