Electronic Grade Alkyls of Group 12 and 13 Elements

Adduct formed between metal alkyl and involatUe Lewis-base. 

Volatile non-adducting impurities e.g. ILtSi, R2Zn and hydrocarbons, removed in vacuo at low to moderate temperature. 

Magnetic stirring bars should be the large oval type—choose the largest that will fit into the flask. These work well in round-bottomed vessels and can move large amounts of solid. 

Owing to the hazardous nature of the products and the toxic nature of several of the solvents and starting materials, all operations are routinely carried out in an efficient fume hood. 

Solvents are all of Analar grade and should be freshly distilled and degassed prior to use. Diethyl ether, petroleum spirit (40/60°C), and THF are all dried and freed from dissolved molecular oxygen by distillation, under nitrogen, from a solution of the solvent, benzophenone, and sodium. Benzene and toluene are distilled under nitrogen from sodium.
