Electrolyte positive

Negatively charged dendritic electrolyte = Positively charged dendritic elctrolyte... [Pg.183]

The formation of polyelectrolyte complexes (PEC) is governed by the characteristics of the individual polyelectrolyte components (e.g. properties of ionic sites - strong or weak electrolyte -, position of ionic sites, charge density, rigidity of macromolecular chains) and the chemical environment (e.g. solvent, ionic strength, pH and temperature). Polyelectrolyte complexes are either separated from the solution as solids or liquids or they are still soluble in solution or may settle as gels due to variation of the controlling factors mentioned above. [Pg.21]

M. In 0.01 M electrolytes, positive potential at pH about 2 is reported only for KCl. Higher electrolyte concentrations induce a shift in the IEP to high pH. [Pg.392]

Furusawa and Anzai investigated the heterocoagulation of a highly monodisperse amphoteric polymer latex (particle diameter 250 nm, lEP ca. pH 6.8 in 5.0 mM KCl background electrolyte, positively charged at low pH) onto various silica spheres (diameters 240, 460, 960, and 1590nm lEP ca. pH 3.0) dispersed in pure water or upon addition of various hydroxypropyl celluloses (HPCs) [17, 18]. Stable dispersions for both individual particles under the condition that they had opposite... [Pg.22]

The hydrogen ions being formed in the electrolyte layer next to the anode in Reaction (16.2) are then transferred through the electrolyte toward the cathode, where they undergo Reaction (16.3). In this way a closed electrical circuit is obtained. In the electrolyte (positive) electrical current flows from the anode to the cathode in... [Pg.133]

The chemical reaction occurring in electrolysis requires a minimum voltage. Sufficient voltage also must be supplied to overcome internal resistance in the electrolyte. Because an electrolyte may contain a variety of ions, alternative reactions are possible. In aqueous electrolytes, positively charged hydrogen ions are always present and can be reduced at the cathode. In a water solution of sodium chloride, hydrogen ions are reduced to the exclusion of sodium ions, and no sodium metal forms. The only metals that can be liberated by electrolysis from aqueous solution are those such as copper, silver, cadmium, and zinc, whose ions are more easily reduced than hydrogen ions. [Pg.607]
