Electric spark resistance

Fuhr, J. and Schmidt, W. E, Spark breakdown of liquid hydrocarbons. II. Temporal development of the electric spark resistance in n-pentane, n-hexane, 2,2-dimethylbutane, and n-decane, /. Appl. Phys., 59, 3702,1986. [Pg.100]

Hexanitrostilbene or HNS (C14H6N6012) is a heat-resistant yellow crystalline solid explosive. HNS is also resistant to radiation, insensitive to electric sparks, and less sensitive to impact than tetryl. It is used in heat-resistant booster explosives and has been used in stage separations in space rockets and for seismic experiments on the moon. Its melting temperature is 316 °C.12... [Pg.55]

It is also practically constant if the gas, enclosed in a soap bubble, is ignited in the center by means of a small electric spark (Method of Stevens, as described in Ref 13, p 384). In this case a spherical flame front is created and as resistance of soap film is very small, the pressure and burning rates are practically constant... [Pg.156]

HNS [hexanitrostilbene (C14H6N6012)] (2.17) is known as a heat-resistant explosive and is also resistant to radiation. It is practically insensitive to an electric spark and is less sensitive to impact than tetryl. Some of the properties of HNS are shown in Table 2.18. [Pg.44]

For several years, additions of Be to commercial copper- and nickel-based alloys have enabled these materials to be precipitation-hardened to strengths approaching those of heat-treated steels. Yet Cu-Be alloys retain the corrosion resistance, electrical and thermal conductivities, and spark resistance of copper-based alloys. [Pg.196]

Current fluctuations are damped by means of choking coil D connected in series. The rectifier starts operating by means of auxiliary electrode H which is connected to anode. 1, over the resistance W. When the rectifier is started it must be tilted so that the two pools of mercury accumulated at H and K merge into one. On restoring the rectifier to its normal position the pool of mercury is divided once again in two parts and gives rise to an electrical spark at the point of interruption the heat evolved by the spark causes that a certain amount of mercury, sufficient to ignite the arc, evaporates. [Pg.195]

Tin is also used in the manufacture of other alloys. Bronze, for example, is an alloy of tin and copper. It is used in a wide variety of industrial products, such as spark-resistant tools, springs, wire, electrical devices, water gauges, and valves. [Pg.616]

Use Spark-resistant tools, springs, fourdrinier wire, paint, cosmetics (as powder), electrical hardware, vacuum dryers, blenders, water gauges, flow indicators, valves, drain cocks, fine arts. [Pg.187]

Boots constructed from nonconductive, spark-resistant materials or coatings. Protect the wearer against electrical hazards and prevent ignition of combustible gases or vapors. ... [Pg.245]
