Effective bending modulus

This is thought to be the first experimental evidence of an effect of protein activity on the shape fluctuations of a lipid membrane. Micropipet experiments prove that the activity by itself induces an enhancement of the amplitude of the fluctuations, as indicated by a strong decrease in the effective bending modulus of the membrane. [Pg.355]
