Effect of surface phenomena and mechanical properties

The term praclieal adhesion implies assessment of the adhesion in pracliee which involves both surface phenomena and bulk mechanical properties. 

The real work of adhesion, which is usually the product of two terms, the thermodynamic or ideal work of adhesion that we have already seen and a (temperature and rate-dependent) term related to the energy lost during the breaking of the adhesive bond. The latter depends on the mechanical properties of the materials.
