Effect of solubilizate on micellar properties

The influence of solubilizate on the critical micelle concentration was discussed in Chapter 3. Changes in two other properties of micellar systems, the cloud point and the micellar size, following the incorporation of solubilizate are considered here. [Pg.280]

Certain non-ionic detergents, whether or not solubilizate is present, exhibit separation into two phases on heating at a critical temperature referred to as the cloud point (see p. 41). [Pg.280]

The effect of solubilizates on the cloud point of Triton X100 is shown in Fig. 5.24. Alkanes such as cetane or dodecane raise the cloud point whereas dodecanol, benzene and phenol depress it. Several other workers have reported a decrease of cloud point of this surfactant following the addition of phenols [Pg.280]

II two phases, the first as in I, the second a phase rich in solubilizate  [Pg.282]

III two phases, the first an aqueous solution containing mono-molecularly dispersed surfactant, the second rich in surfactant with a small amount of water and the solubilizate dissolved in it  [Pg.282]
