E precursor

A long evolving use of PSA was for Anticipated Transients without Scram (ATWS) which extended over 15 years to culminate in NUREG-0460 which was upset by the Salem failure-to-scram incident and the subsequent SECY Letter 83-28. Other special studies have been (a) value-impact analysis (VIA.) studies of alternative containment concepts (e.g., vented containment, NUREG/CR-0165), (b) auxiliary feedwater studies, (c) analysis of DC power requirements, (d) station blackout (NUREG/CR-3220), and (e) precursors to potential core-damage accident.s (NUREG/CR-2497), to name a few of the NRC sponsored studies. [Pg.384]

The heterogeneous catalytic system iron phthalocyanine (7) immobilized on silica and tert-butyl hydroperoxide, TBHP, has been proposed for allylic oxidation reactions (10). This catalytic system has shown good activity in the oxidation of 2,3,6-trimethylphenol for the production of 1,4-trimethylbenzoquinone (yield > 80%), a vitamin E precursor (11), and in the oxidation of alkynes and propargylic alcohols to a,p-acetylenic ketones (yields > 60%) (12). A 43% yield of 2-cyclohexen-l-one was obtained (10) over the p-oxo dimeric form of iron tetrasulfophthalocyanine (7a) immobilized on silica using TBHP as oxidant and CH3CN as solvent however, the catalyst deactivated under reaction conditions. [Pg.436]

Szostak et al. worked on the basis of a simple cellular system which can replicate itself autonomously and which is subject to Darwinian evolution. This simple protocell consists of an RNA replicase, which replicates in a self-replicating vesicle. If this system can take up small molecules from its environment (a type of feeding ), i.e., precursors which are required for membrane construction and RNA synthesis, the protocells will grow and divide. The result should be the formation of improved replicases. Improved chances of survival are only likely if a sequence, coded by RNA, leads to better growth or replication of membrane components, e.g., by means of a ribozyme which catalyses the synthesis of amphiphilic lipids (Figs. 10.8 and 10.9). We can expect further important advances in the near future from this combination ( RNA + lipid world ). [Pg.271]

While the production of 2 and 3 from 1 falls amongst the known capacities of baker s yeast, the formation, in yields of 20-25 % of 4, containing two additional carbon atoms with respect t t e precursor aldehyde and two adjacent chiral centres of the type R R CHOH, is new and quite fruitful from the synthetic viewpoint ( ). [Pg.305]

The deselelenation reaction of heterocycle 202 with triphenylphosphine followed by addition of mesitonitrile oxide results in the formation of product 203 in 83% yield (Scheme 12) <1995JOM43>. This compound is thermally very stable and does not decompose even at 200 °C in toluene. This reaction has been extended to the use of Tbt(Ditp)Sn=E, Tbt(Dmtp)Sn=S, and Tbt(Tcp)Sn=E precursors (E = S, Se) in the reaction with mesytonitrile oxide (Ditp = 2,2"-diisopropyl-/ -terphenyl-2 -yl Dmtp = 2,2"-dimethyl- z-terphenyl-2 -yl Tcp = 2,4,6-tricyclohexyl-phenyl) <2004JA15572>. [Pg.729]

The hydrogenation of y-tocotrienyl acetate, a vitamin E precursor [43], is a striking example demonstrating the potential of these catalysts. With complex 27 all three double bonds in the side chain were reduced with very high enantio- and diastereoselectivity to give the natural (R,R,R)-isomer of y-tocotrienyl acetate almost exclusively. Complexes... [Pg.60]
