DSC case studies

Cp values are typically expressed as a function of temperature T in the form A+ BT + CIT, where A, B and C are constants for a particular glass composition. 

As4oSe6o (atomic %) glass was prepared and a sample was sealed into a hdded aluminium crucible inside a glovebox ( 0.1 ppm H2O and 0.1 ppm O2) and run in the DSC against an empty, sealed, matched, lidded aluminium crucible as the reference. 

The DSC curves on heating the Er +-doped fluoroaluminosilicates sometimes show an extra, very small exotherm located between Tg and the peak associated with growth of the Er +-doped nano crystalline phase [27]. This small exothermhasbeen tentatively interpreted as due to the homogeneous nucleation process itself.
