Drug synthesis techniques

However, the information age applications to synthetic modeling will be inherently limited unless we can improve our screening techniques. For many years, 1 have given considerable thought to the link between drug synthesis, discovery, and development. [Pg.550]

Human relied on plants as medicine for centuries and their use for treatment of ailments and diseases is practiced in many parts of the world despite the widespread practice of modem medicine and the use of synthetic dmgs worldwide. Apart from their use in traditional medicine in many Asian, South American, and African countries with an estimated 80% of the world s population using traditional medicine, plants contribute to about 25% of the prescribed drugs worldwide [1]. Many natural products are used as adjuvant/ prophylactic or for therapeutic purposes. Several important synthetic dmgs have been isolated initially from plants (Table 1) and several other biologically active compounds are still obtained from cultivated or wild plants due to limitations in synthesis techniques or economic viability [2]. [Pg.195]
