Drug design potency enhancement

Old Drug, New Design Another approach to drug development is to take a chemical already known to have a certain desirable effect and alter it slightly in hopes of enhancing its potency. The chemists at the Celgene Corporation have taken this approach with thalidomide. They have developed a number of new drugs similar in structure to thalidomide that appear to be 400 to 500 times more potent. [Pg.673]
